Domburg Zeeland Netherlands

How to get there Drive from Domburg to Westkapelle. First you will pass the surfschool with a parking space next to the road. Drive further towards Westkapelle and you will find a road going up the dyke. Park on top of the dyke for a very easy access.

At low tide very clean waves can form on the sandbank 50 to 100 m outside.

This spot is also famous for surfing and can offer some of the biggest waves in Zeeland. On good days you will be treated on a great show by the locals and Belgian pros.

Being near to the estuary of Westerschelde (river to Antwerp harbor) means currents can be very strong and with outgoing tide even the pros have to make a walk of shame every now and then.

Beware of the wooden groynes that hide under the water surface at high tide! A rather big shorebreak can make for a difficult launch.

Best Wind directions SW and NE are sideshore

Parking Easy parking close to the shore, generally not too busy due to required level.

Safety (VERY) strong current, groynes at hight tide, shorebreak

Other activities Surfing

Apres surf Head to pub Tramzicht in Domburg for a few well deserved beers

Windhut rating 3.5

Surfcentrum Brouwersdam (Kabbelaarsbank) Zeeland Netherlands

How to get there Ossenhoek 1, 3253 MH Ouddorp. You can find the peninsula halfway on the lake site of “Brouwersdam”, the dyke between ouddorp and renesse. The peninsula is also home to Port zélande featuring a waterpark, a bungalow park, a yacht harbor and a camping site.

This spot caters for all: you will find the top 2 European freestyle champs practicing here on nearly every windy day together with the junior world champion, beginners, racing fanatics, old school blasters and door surfers. Kiting is not allowed, come on a sunny summerday and you will soon understand why.

When arriving find a parking spot that suits you best with regard to wind direction. Rig your sail on the green grass and blast away.Next to the surfcentre a large protected bay is artificially made with dykes of small pebbles.

Inside this area the deepest point is approx. one meter and the water is always flat making it a perfect beginner as well as advanced freestyle arena depending on the wind (flat water with 8 bft is possible here). SW is the best wind direction for showing your latest freestyle moves.

Best Wind directions ll wind directions can be sailed here. With a strong North wind you get a huge speed/freestyle area.

Parking Easy parking next to the shore, can get very busy when the weather is good. Rigging on the grass.

Safety t’s a lake, so... It has lot of shallow areas. Biggest dangers, besides the sun, are the oysters and mussels hiding under the surface. Shoes are a necessity! (speaking of experience: never go out on this spot without shoes! I personally needed 6 stitches in my foot even when I was wearing shoes! The oysters and mussels are deadsharp)

Other activities Plenty: waterjump, dingy sailing, catamaran sailing (www.brouwersdam.nl ). OR cross the dyke Brouwersdam to the seaside for kiting, buggysailing, more windsurfing (see spot description brouwersdam seaside below), exploring the dunes, etc…At port Zélande you’ll also find yacht rental or charters and bungalow park with a tropical water park. Not being a fan of the formula makes it hard to recommend this place. However I can imagine that for sailors with a family this can be a very good solution to get those well needed sessions in and keeping the family happy at the same time. The local camping site is probably the more fun option for the youngsters to my opinion….) (check www.centerparcs.be/VL/BE/parken/port_zelande?ref=benl_google_brand&gclid=CIO-3OuRiJwCFUF_3godSDYM-A for more information).

Apres surf The surfcenter has a very nice bar with terrace or head to Renesse at night for partying till the morning.

Ouddorp, ‘t Hekje/ Flauwe werk / Strandpaviljoen Zeeland Netherlands

How to get there Drive from ouddorp to Renesse on the N57. You can see the lighttower from far. Turn right towards “stranden ouddorp” and drive till the end. Turn right again and you will find a first parking after a few 100 m on your right (strandpaviljoen). Drive further till the road turns sharply to the right. Turn left here for the parking at “Flauwe werk/Hekje.

A long walk to the water via the pads through the dunes. Both spots offer similar conditions.Hekje/flauwe werk is usually busier because of the slightly shorter walk. If it gets to busy tack up to strandpaviljoen or park there straight away. Several sandbanks cause for the conditions to change constantly while the tide goes up and down. Highest waves can be found at high tide. They can run very nice here even though not as big as in Domburg. A sandbank outside offers great high jump possibilities when the tide goes down.

Best Wind directions SSW to WSW, NE.

Parking Free parking on the parking spots. A long walk through the dunes and an equally long walk on the beach (especially at low tide) are required unfortunately .

Safety Strong currents especially near high tide when all the water inside the protected bay of Brouwersdam seaside squeezes out via this shoreline. Rather big shorebreak can occur at certain tidal moments…

Other activities Surfing, biking, hiking and strand buggy in the restricted areas. Check spot descriptions above for more options nearby.

Apres surf You can have a drink at Strandpavlijoen but don’t expect amazing après surf atmosphere or check spot descriptions above for more options nearby.

Vuurtoren Zeeland Netherlands

How to get there Drive from Ouddorp to Renesse on the N57. You can see the light tower from far. Turn right towards “stranden ouddorp” and drive till the end. At the end turn left and drive towards the car park. A curving sandbank outside offers side off conditions at low tide with all wind directions from S to WSW. On a good day without doubt the best waveriding in Zeeland

The walk to the shore is a real pain here but it’s worth it! at the parking site and then follow the very long path through the dunes. Jump on your board and sail to the sandbank. If you weren’t warmed up yet no worries. A second rather long walk over the sandbank carrying your gear with get all those muscles ready for action ( the neck pains for carrying your gear will go away after a couple of days, don’t worry:-p). For the people that are familiar with Manawa in Mauritius: you’ll be twice as far from any help so take care and never go alone!!

The bank has a SW direction for most of its length and curves towards the South at the eastern end. With Southern wind 5 to 6 bottom turns are no exception here .Once the tide rises it will get very mess though. You have waves and currents coming from the protected bay and meeting with the incoming swell from the sea resulting in an absolute soup ! When the bank fills up it’s time to head towards Strandpaviljoen or Hekje/flauwe werk or get a beer.

Best Wind directions SSW to WSW, NE.

Parking Free parking but far from the shore..

Safety This spot is very remote (5 km out in the sea) so don’t go out alone and watch out for your friends and fellow sailors on the water! Advanced sailors with wave experience only.

Other activities Biking and hiking. Check spot descriptions above for more options nearby.

Apres surf Check spot description Brouwerdam for options nearby or bring your own beers for a sundowner in the dunes dreaming of the next day “de bank really works.
