By now kitesurfing is regarded as a fun sport rather than an extreme sport, the equipment has become a lot more comfortable and the safety standards have increased considerably. The sport however, is not without some risk so it is very important to learn kitesurfing with respect and under the compliance of safety regulations - supervised by professional instructors, in a suitable environment and with the appropriate equipment.

Here at the Skyriders (Club Mistral) kitesurfing school Le Morne Mauritius we teach you the basics of kitesurfing in a sensible way and additionally communicate important theoretical knowledge about the equipment, safety and weather.

Our team of qualified instructors and supervisors teach in a range of languages as you would expect from a worldwide kite school to all levels of riders from absolute beginner to experts who are training specific moves or disciplines like wave riding.

Our kite school in Le Morne is equipped with radio helmets so the instructor can communicate with you while you are riding, as well as video facilities for off water sessions of video teaching.

The Skyridres (Club Mistral) Le Morne is situated in the Indian Resort next to the Le Morne Public Beach and from here we meet and greet our students. Beginner lessons are held in the safety of a lagoon not far from the school with your first experiences of flying starting directly from the water. More advanced lessons for wave riding are done out on the main spot of Le Morne in Small Reef and Manawa.

Our instructors will discuss your level and specific requirements with you on arrival to ensure you are placed in the right group or taken out on a one to one basis.

Kitesurfing lessons are carried out in 2.5 hour sessions and weather and tide conditions allowing we run 2 sessions per instructor per day. We operate a step system as a way of putting the right level of people in the right groups but this doesn't mean if you are learning faster you will be held back. All the instructors have your improvement in mind and fully appreciate that you perhaps have a limited amount of time on Mauritius to progress before you go home to show off your new found skills. However we will not push you at the expense of safety. It is important not only for your safety but for the reputation of the sport that our students leave us with enough knowledge to be able to train and practice in a responsible way.

Supervision For Improver's

Kitesurfing Supervision is aimed at both improving kitesurfers who have brought their own equipment, and students who have completed kite lesson to a stage where they can train under a watchful eye but are not yet ready to be fully independent in the rental school. Supervision involves a qualified helper to come with you to part of the spot where the conditions are suitable for training, checking you have rigged your equipment safely, explain the spot, launch and land you and to generally be around to keep an eye on you in case you tangle your lines or have a problem while out on the water.

The kite school is fully equipped with the latest North kites and here at Le Morne we teach mainly with North EVO kites. We use a full range of North kiteboarding boards to compliment all stages of learning and advanced riding.

Renting Kites and Kiteboards at Le Morne

The Skyriders (Club Mistral) centre at Le Morne offers a fully equiped rental service for limited numbers. The team will ask you to present a valid IKO or other internationally recognised license showing your level before allowing you to go out on the water with centre equipment.

Can I rent without a license ? We will allow a rental without a license but only after a checkout by a qualified instructor to ensure you have at least the minimum level of being able to go, return, re-launch and kite upwind. During the checkout you will be familiarised with the North equipment and receive an introduction to the spot and rules of the Club.

Used North Kite Equipment For Sale

The Skyriders (Club Mistral) centre at Le Morne offers used equipnent for sale. We keep the centre stocked with the latest equipment from North and North Kiteboarding so at certain times of the year we offer equipment that is being replaced for sale. The condition of the equipment is good and we will not sell anything that we feel is un-safe at the time you buy it. A team member will help you to choose the right kit, pump up the kite check it has no leaks in the tube and struts and show you how it should be setup. If you are interested in used equipment after a course feel free to ask your instructor. Prices are very competative compared to Europe.
