Just back from Marsa Alam Windsurfing spot Egypt 83
Set off on the evening of the 17th to the Club Mistral annual manager meeting which this year was in Marsa Alam Egypt.
Left Mauritius to Dubai on an Emirates flight which is perfect, great grub, great entertainment and as I had to wait longer than 8 hours I got a voucher for a hotel room in Dubai while in transit. Passed the night sleeping and then jumped on the connection to Cairo, night stop over in Cairo, met Jason and Resit in Cairo airport for the next flight down to Marsa Alam.
Accommodation for the meeting was at the Shams Alam Hotel all inclusive. When we arrived at the place the rest of the team was already there having a beer or two, rooms were great and the food for the week although a bit the same was really great standard, no Egyptian belly, nice mix of fish, pasta, veg, rice, salad, breads etc for dinner and the usual breakfast buffet in the morning.
Something unusual for a Club Mistral meeting was the wind, it blew and blew and blew, the locals in the hotel were perfect hosts no feelings of what has happened in Egypt, nice and chilled atmosphere just what you want when you go to a windsurfing destination.
The spot offers perfect flat water blasting with some bump and jump, shallow sandy launch cross to cross offshore wind. The spot is also in a nature reserve so the reefs etc are still in amazing condition making the snorkling really nice too. The place reminded me a of the spot at Meridien in Dahab but in a much more tranquil environment and although windy less small side on chop than Dahab. For a relaxing getaway with windy blasting conditions or improving water starts etc its really great.
The centre is big and spacious with nice chill out etc great selection of rigs and boards so all good really.
Meeting was really great not only from the perspective that we all got to see each other in the same place at the same time to share ideas etc but also from the content and training.
Have to say that although there is a lot about Egypt in the news right now and it is obviously in a state of change that while travelling around it all seemed the same as before. Maybe Cairo centre is not the place to be but for sure the resorts in Dahab, Marsa Alam and Safaga are far from these problems and although quiet seem to be business as usual with the usual Egyptian hospitality.
Still plenty of reasons to go and enjoy an amazing Red Sea windsurfing experience.

Ever Wondered How Waves Work
Had a day off today and spent it at home chilling a bit, came across this website www.surfing-waves.com which has an interesting section on waves, the terminology, differences between different types of waves etc etc. So if you have ever wondered what we are all talking about when we waffle on about a point break (which is not a new kind of choco bar) or a fast left (not a reference to something motor sport related)then give the site a look its quite interesting.
Here it is again folks www.surfing-waves.com
Best wishes and happy windsurfing

Made a Few Small Changes
Just updated the site a little to clean it up a bit, more changes and new stuff on the way, its been ages since I found the time to add things to WindHut, got a bit distracted with Facebook. broken cameras etc etc but now back on the case.
