Quick Update from Mauritius 30_01_08
Yesturday the weather turned very cloudy and dark. We managed to get a surf session in later in the day which was great. Svetlana came with us for her first tries and had a baptism of fire as Ninja, Baba, Alexis, Sandro and myself went to Plat en Rouge (not ideal for beginners). Anyway Svetlana caught her first wave there and managed to stand up maximum respect. The place we went to is a reef break, very shallow and the wave becomes very steep very quickly so to be taken there for your first time is pretty hard core.
The boat engineers came yesturday and put back the engines that they took up to the workshop for a big service which is great.
The weather also changed yesturday it went from being very humid to cloudy with rain showers and on inspection we discovered that there are a couple of cyclones near to us. So for now we wait to see what is going to happen and how close they will actually get.
Thats it for now, today is my free day along with Alexis and Johnny so we will see what the weather brings us. Right now a strong N wind is blowing so i think we will be able to get out on the water today somewhere.
Wherever you are and whatever you are doing best wishes and enjoy the day.
Wind Again In Mauritius
Just a quick report on the days activities. Went for a quick sail in the morning played around a bit infront of the centre on a Mistral Wave RD 86 with a 5.3, Little reef was quite good for jumping hich kept me a mused for half an hour then i went up to Manawa for half an hour. Manawa was nice around 2 to 2.5 meters nothing super huge but it was very glassy and a lot of fun. Svetlana also went out infront of the centre on a Mistral Style RD 84 with a 4.7 Duke. Svetlana stayed infront of the centre training some jumping, duck jibes etc.
In the afternoon Sveta went Kite Surfing again with GREAT SUCCESS !! managed to get up and riding in both directions for a few meters, which is great considering that 3 days ago she had never flown a kite before.
I went for a another little session later in the day when the guests were all tired but stayed in little reef. There were some good sets sometimes but with teh high tide it was a bit choppy, still good training and mostr important of all good fun!
Lets see what the next day brings us.
So best wishes to everyone, happy windsurfing, kite surfing and surfing.
More soon I hope with some pics but my camera is not playing at the moment.
Buzz and Sveta Start Kite Surfing
So to anyone who knows me don’t collapse in shock but the last couple of days the opportunity and weather has been perfect for me and Svetlana to get out there and try some kitesurfing.
3 sessions one on 5 line, safety systems, re launch etc, 1 on how to put the board on and water start and today some free practice and huzzah I managed to get up and riding. Have to say its much easier to learn than windsurfing but obvious respect must be given to the power of the kite. The new 2008 North bar and safety system is really very very good and this helps a lot with the confidence factor.
Svetlana is doing really good and today managed after only 3 times out and having never flown a kite before this to get on the board. She had a Rebel 9 today the wind was a bit gusty but still did her first water start lesson with Baba and managed to get out of the water and go a few meters so bit more training and she will be up and running.
I had a Rebel 12 today which was great, just hoping now that we have good conditions for a few more days so i can get the hang of going upwind and get going in the other direction a bit better but we will see.
Can say though that I don’t think that kites will replace the windsurfing passion there is something definatly more radical about being in waves with your equipment right next to you than seeming to be just standing on the water on a modified wakeboard :-) looking forward to the jumping possibilities with the kite though and being able to use it as a light wind alternative.
Will try and get some pics maybe the guys will catch me face planting at some stage hehehe.
So thats it for now, tomorrow some swell is forecast so we may got early for a bit of surfing.
Best regards to all, happy windsurfing, kite surfing and surfing to all from me over here in Mauritius.

Buzz In Mauritus - First Post For Ages Sorry About That
Ok so what have I been up to. Well around 14th October I left my home in sunny Dahab for a posting to manage the Club Mistral at Le Morne in Mauritius.
It took me a while to make up my mind if I should come here or not for various reasons but in the end obviously I decided to give it a go. On arrival I had to endure a day at the hospital as the requirements for work permits here are quite strict so you get the full works, normal health check, blood tests, chest xrays etc etc won;t bore everyone too much with this but it takes a while, lots of waiting around and generally is a bit boring.
All good on that front not falling appart too badly at the moment appart from a bit of ligament damage here and there but heh thats life.
On Arrival shared a place with Felix who many people who have visited here the past few years will know, this lucky guy is now on a 3 month trip to WA then 1 month to Cape Town and now I have been here a little while I would say he definately earned it, and at this stage would like to extend to him a big hug and hope he is enjoying himself, ride a few more me captain my captain..
As you can probably guess from the fact that I am posting something I finally after quite a long wait have an internet connection at home “humdulila”.
Its not been easy leaving Dahab I miss Sveta, Onur, Said, Ahmed, Reda, Hafez, Jay, Toby, Yesh, Mahmood and all my other friends there so a big hug to all of them and I am thinking of you all.
Here is a fresh challenge, a new place new culture different and changeable sailing conditions, the possibility to surf and kite surf as well which is great although I did not find time to do that much yet I am hoping that now the low season is here I will get the chance a bit more often.
The island is absolutely beautiful and it is a welcome change to be somewhere green with rain every now and again. The waterfront is an absolute playground for windsurfing of all levels, kite surfing and surfing, although there are times where the conditions make it too dangerous to go out due to strong currents and adverse swell directions, never the less you can definatly have some of the best conditions to be found anywhere in the world here and this is just an incredible bonus to working here.
Anyways I will now try my best to add as many pics and videos of the place as I can so keep popping back every now and again you never know what you will find…
Best regards to all and happy windsurfing.
We hope to see you in Mauritius soon.
Best wishes and happy windsurfing.
